FAQ
Upper Cervical Chiropractic care focuses on the most important part of the spine, the first two bones in the neck, the Atlas (C1) , Axis (C2) and the Occiput which is the base of the skull. The upper cervical is a very crucial area of the spine because it essentially controls our vital bodily functions. This includes blood pressure, digestion, heart rate, hormones, osmotic balance, the immune system and the list goes on.
Since the upper cervical is a crucial area, your body will do whatever it has to do to maintain that area. This includes creating imbalance in the rest of the spine. This can result in low back pain, shoulder pain, headaches, insomnia, high blood pressure and so on. Once a Chiropractor is able to properly adjust the upper cervical, the body will adjust itself automatically. By doing this, both doctor and patient will be able to save a lot of time and money because their own bodies will become its own Chiropractor. In other words the brain will begin to adjust the spine through the cerebellum (the part of the brain that controls posture, balance and movement).
In short YES. There have been countless articles that have proven Chiropractic to be effective. There have been also articles that have suggested Chiropractic to not be effective. If one looks for evidence enough, there is usually evidence that supports a premise and an equal that is against it, this goes beyond Chiropractic but almost everything that exist in the world. Even Physicist, which are probably the most respected form of science do not agree with each other. This is not an attack on medicine but every year there are drugs pulled out of the market because they do more harm than good. You are welcome to look on the FDA website to see if what you are reading to be false.
Chiropractic is the largest non-allopathic profession in the world. Chiropractors are trained as much as medical doctors are. Furthermore, Chiropractor's pay less for insurance than a General Practitioner (General Medical) or a Dentist would. Would I never tell anyone to not see a medical doctor or dentist? The answer is no, in fact I recommend everyone to get periodic health checks with their medical doctor and to get their teeth checked by a Dentist.
So where would you like to go from here?
If you are reading this and curious about Chiropractic, come in with an empty mind and try for yourself. Chiropractic would not be where it is at if it did not work. To say something does not work would be to call the people that have benefited from such things as ignorant or foolish. The public would not waste their money on a service that does not work for them. In our practice, we have seen some of the most educated people in the world and they found our adjustments to be effective.
Does Chiropractic work for everyone?
That is a loaded answer but the short answer is NO. The long answer is it really depends on what kind of problem a person has, whether it is a Chiropractic one, whether that specific Chiropractor is trained to help with that problem or not (there are different kinds of specialties within Chiropractic), and how severe is their problem. If a patient comes in with a slipped disc and can not control their bowel or bladder, then its fair to say seeing an orthopedic surgeon to do surgery is advisable, Chiropractic is less likely to work in that situation. In many occasions in our practice we have seen clients with 2-5 slipped disc through out there spine and got them completely out of pain, some of them have come in wheelchairs being in so much pain and got better. In some instances a client came in with just a minor slipped disc and they did not get better.
Some patients do not survive stage 2 cancer treatment and another survives stage 4 when visiting an oncologist. There are some problems that doctors can not solve. Should we condemn anyone when such a thing happens? Of course not. There is so little we know about the body and when it comes to battling disease the medical profession is losing. In 2030 the American Cancer Association and the World Health Organization estimate cancer will rise between 50-60% of what it is today. The more alternative treatments that we have such as Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Qi Gong, Exercise, Mental Health, Positive Psychology, Meditation to name a few, the better chances we have to become healthier. Evolution is taking place and more and more people are taking health in their own hands rather than surrendering themselves to fate or in a doctor's hands.
Are there differences between Chiropractors?
Yes of course. In any profession there are highly skilled individuals and those that strive towards mediocrity.
If you want further investigation you are welcome visit our practice. We have many research papers throughout the world in our office so we would be glad to share with you the research.
Absolutely not. There have been so called studies that suggest that manipulations in the neck can cause stroke. In much greater numbers there have been many studies that disproved that assumption. All across the Chiropractic schools in America there has never been a case with an Intern causing stroke. These interns are yet to be a doctor's of Chiropractic yet no accident as such has ever occurred in all of the schools in America. There are other trades that also attempt to adjust people. This includes massage therapist, physical or physio therapist, and osteopath's. Out of all the trades, Chiropractors are the most qualified to perform spinal adjustments because of the number of hours and years it takes to become a Chiropractor.
Further more the malpractice insurance for Chiropractors is extremely low compared to medical doctors. There is greater risk of side effects in drugs and there are greater risk to surgery than undergoing Chiropractic care. That is why medical doctors typically pay more for indemnity. Insurance companies have to look at situations objectively due to the nature of their business. They charge according to the number of law suits that occur in that particular field. This includes every other type of insurance. In other words they have to charge the amount they can actually profit from.
In fact it is the other way around; when your body is exposed to radiation, hundreds of thousands of cells die. This is why pregnant women are not allowed to shoot X-Rays unless clinically necessary from trauma. Taking X-rays is such a common practice in the health industry that people forget how harmful they can be. This not only applies to X-rays but medical imaging as a whole.* There are times when you need them and times when you do not, most of the time you do not though.
Essentially, when an X-ray is taken, an electron is shot through your body at very high velocity, harming the cells in your body.
There are other harmless ways to gain more valuable diagnostic information which is explained in on one of the questions below.
Some say the radiation from X-Ray photons are no more dangerous than the suns rays. This is definitely not true because if it was equally safe to shoot X-Rays then why would X-Ray technicians have to hide behind a lead protected wall when exposing you to radiation! Being exposed to X-Ray radiation every day can give you cancer but going out in the sun every day will not.
A competent and confident Chiropractor should not have to require imaging to offer care Chiropractic care.
*700 Billion dollars a year is spent on unnecessary testing in the health industry.
The ministry of health does not recognize Chiropractic. In part because Chiropractic is considered a alternative therapy. Rightfully so because Chiropractic is not meant to necessarily treat any problem, it is meant to bring out LIFE, when the body works better you feel better. Chiropractors focus on making the body function better without any supplements, medication or any invasive procedures. Chiropractors in America are accepted at the same level as their medical counterparts. Chiropractic adjustments help the body function better therefore giving you no reason to have symptoms. Chiropractic is not a replacement for Medical doctors, both are meant to play a different role in a person's health.
There is a Singapore Chiropractic Association that is a private organization which is not appointed by the government. Chiropractors are not required to join this organization. When looking for the right help, it is best to do research and find the right person that can help you based on your needs and values.
As soon as you realize the need to take care of yourself or a loved one. The sooner you decide to take care of yourself, the healthier you will be. Everyone can benefit from Chiropractic from infancy to pregnancy to the elderly regardless if they have problems or not.
Absolutely not. When treated by the right person, everything should be gentle and effortless. However there are techniques that we do later in care that can give people brief discomfort meant to accelerate the healing process.
It depends on each client's needs. We do not believe in treating clients as a number, but in addressing their individual needs. Visits can last between 20-30 minutes and as long as an hour. Quality personalized care is what we offer.
Research results show a staggering correlation between life span and correct spinal alignment. People whose spines are in alignment can live up to 14 years longer than those whose spines are misaligned. The body's systems work more efficiently with an aligned spine. Your immune system, digestive system, hormonal system and cardiac system are all controlled by your nervous system. When the nervous system is working properly, you have higher odds of optimal health.
Really well! After adjustment, you can feel like a whole new person. Your mood, memory and energy level can all be improved when undergoing Chiropractic care. There maybe stages of healing that may make you feel different that the doctor will discuss about.
Finding the right Chiropractor can be difficult sometimes but here are some guidelines you can go by:
- Do you have a good rapport with the person? Being comfortable with your Chiropractor can be a very important thing: it can facilitate the healing process.
- Do you have the impression they intend to help you?
- Are they educating through fear or empowerment? This is very important because the essence of Chiropractic revolves around the power of the body, not a disease process that will destroy you. Scaring someone because they have a condition does not help them, while empowering and encouraging them does. Just like hitting your child versus teaching them the right way.
- What kind of training do they have? Typically Chiropractors trained in north America have more training than other places. Although just because they come from a good school does not make them a good Chiropractor. Skill level can vary from Chiropractor to Chiropractor even if they are from the same school. Check to see if they specialize in any specific techniques or do they do general ones.
- What is the level of the Chiropractors specificity? Like any other field, proficiency can vary between practitioners, Chiropractic is the same. A specified force to a specific location of 1mm or 1 degree can decide whether or not someone may need 6 sessions vs 60 sessions.
- The more gentle and smooth an adjustment is the better it will be. Adjustments should not be uncomfortable, in fact most of the time they should feel good. There are however unique adjustments that can accelerate the healing process that maybe more intense.
- Do they really listen to you? This may not be considered, as many doctors with busy schedules don't take the time to listen to their patients or clients.
